Number 2 Art1B First blog

I chose this piece, pottery from a catalogue of native American, southwestern pottery simply because I enjoy it. There is a simplicity and elegance apparent simultaneously. One of my near term goals is to travel there (Arizona, New Mexico) and just spend some time visiting the various areas where these style of pots are created. I believe a large part of the attraction to this particular style of pottery is the beauty they can achieve under relatively "primitive" conditions. It would be fun to explore.

  1. My initial reaction to this piece was, "YUMMY". It reminds me of soft serve ice cream. What's more simplistic and yet so beloved by all--but ice cream! I, too, am drawn to Native American art, but this is a wonderful first for me--I'm used to seeing a lot of earthtone hues...I love the reddish tone-it reminds me of strawberry! I love thei Native American's craftsmanship--especially with beaded work and leather. About 3 years ago I had the opportunity to visit the Eteljorg Musuem in Indiana a few times. If you're ever in that neck of the woods, be sure to check it out. Here's the web-site: http://www.eiteljorg.org/
